Rated Matches & Credits
Rated matches are competitive matches submitted to DUPR for official rating updates. They follow a structured lobby-based flow to ensure fair play and accurate results.
What Are Rated Matches?
A rated match is a doubles or singles game that counts toward your official DUPR rating. To play a rated match, the following requirements must be met:
- All players must have linked DUPR accounts
- Each player must spend 1 credit to participate
- The match must be organized through a QR-based match lobby
How to Play a Rated Match
Step 1: Create a Lobby
The host selects the match format, scoring type, and venue, then creates a lobby. A QR code is generated automatically for other players to join.
Step 2: Other Players Scan & Join
Other players scan the QR code from the Match tab in the app and join the lobby. For doubles matches, each player selects which side to join (Side 1 or Side 2) before confirming. Available slots update in real time so everyone can see which positions are still open.
Step 3: Host Starts the Match
Once all slots are filled, the host can start the match. A rating spread validation ensures that no player pairing exceeds a configurable maximum gap (default 0.75 DUPR points; event hosts can adjust this per session).
Step 4: Record & Verify Scores
After the game, one player enters the score. The opposing team then reviews and either accepts or proposes a correction. If accepted, the match is locked and cannot be changed. If the opposing team disagrees, they can submit a corrected score for the original team to review. If both teams still cannot agree, either side can escalate to a dispute.
Step 5: DUPR Submission
Verified rated matches can be submitted to DUPR from the match detail screen or the event matches page. Tap the “Submit to DUPR” button to send the result for rating processing. DUPR submission is manual — it does not happen automatically.
What Happens When Players Disagree
If the opposing team believes the score is wrong, they can submit a corrected score instead of accepting. The original team then reviews the correction. If agreement still cannot be reached, either team can escalate to a dispute.
- A moderator reviews the dispute and either sets the final score or voids the match.
- If no moderator acts within 48 hours, the match is automatically voided.
- When a match is voided, all reserved credits are refunded to every participant.
Lobby Expiry
Lobbies expire automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity. When a lobby expires before all slots are filled, all reserved credits are refunded. However, if the lobby was full when it expired (i.e. the host did not start the match in time), the creator's credit is forfeited as a penalty and only the other players are refunded.
How Credits Work
Credits are reserved when you join a rated match lobby. Here is how credits are affected by different outcomes:
| Event | Credit Impact |
|---|---|
| Create or join lobby | 1 credit reserved per player |
| Match verified | Reserved credit refunded; creator gets +1 bonus |
| Score rejected | No void — score correction opportunity |
| Match voided (dispute) | Reserved credit refunded |
| Lobby expires (incomplete) | Reserved credit refunded |
| Lobby expires (full) | Creator's credit forfeited; others refunded |
| Player leaves lobby | Reserved credit refunded |
Credits are not consumed for casual matches.
